The second annual
ORyan Project Golf Tournament took place on Wednesday June 18th 2008 at
National Pines Golf Club. We have the distinct pleasure of being the
signature event for the Barrie Examiners Tim Hortons
Charity Golf Tour. Registering participants were greeted by a delicious cup of
Tim Hortons Coffee as they received their golfer gift and goodie bags.
The golfer gift this year was a beautiful ORyan Project engraved watch to
clip onto your golf bag and the goodie bag was filled with a multitude of
interesting products such as; Tim Hortons gift Certificates,
Baycats Tickets, Canadian Tour Championship Tickets, makeup for the
ladies, fishing lures, perfume samples, food products, dish soap, handi wipes,
full size bags of potato chips, scratch pads, screwdriver sets, beer cozies the
list goes on and on. Thank you to Sobeys for donating the recyclable grocery
bags that were filled to the brim by many donating partners. After the golfers
were loaded up with their goodies they were off to their golf carts for more
surprises. Each golfer received free sleeves of golf balls, tees, huge Club
Link golf towels, water, candy and potato chips in their carts to help start
the day. A delicious BBQ lunch was served on the patio that included burgers,
chicken, sausages and a multitude of salads with delicious home baked gourmet
cookies.
The driving range was open at 11am
for warm up and Callaway Golf was on site to show our golfers some of their
latest products. Callaway later went out onto the course with their amazing
selection of drivers and hosted a longest drive contest on one of the holes
using their products. Prizes were new Callaway golf bags. Joining Callaway on
the course for more festivities was Moxies Classic Grill. Moxies
had a BBQ set up on one hole where they were serving up samples of their tasty
steak and grilled mushrooms and on another hole two of the well known
Moxies girls were mixing up and serving some of their popular martinis.
Also on the course was Labatts serving up some tasty samples. Your choice
of Keiths or Bud Light was available. All on course activities were
included in the cost of your $20. players passport, which also entitled you to
a passport holders draw.
A shotgun start at 12:30 got all of
the 128 (maximum) golfers off to a great start. The tournament included all of
the usual contests, closest to the pin on all par threes, hole in one
prizes, putting contests, longest drives for ladies and men and most accurate
drive. A new contest called closest to the shopping cart (a small toy cart was
placed into a sand trap) netted the winner a $250. Sobeys gift
certificate. The pace of play moved fairly quickly and all golfers were back
into the clubhouse by 5:30 for a complimentary cocktail courtesy of
Labatts. Back at the club house each participating lady was presented
with a long stem rose as she came in from the course.
A fabulous prime rib dinner was
served to all the participants with 2 complimentary bottles of Australian wine
on each table. Sponsors were recognized for their participation with framed
certificates of appreciation from the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation,
clocks and thermometers and specialty chocolates. This was followed by a moving
and informative talk about CF by Dave Madder. Dave is an adult with CF that is
living in the area. Daves positive attitude and courage in adversity was
an inspiration to all who had the pleasure of hearing his message. Awards,
amazing prizes, raffle draws and an auction followed. Auction items included
concert tickets, Muskoka resort getaways and Club Link Golf Certificates.
